Adam Scarth
Adam Scarth is a British artist and cinematographer whose paintings explore landscape, memory and light. Known for atmospheric abstract and semi-abstract works, he draws on personal experience to explore the space between observation and recollection, where emotion and place become inseparable.
An established BAFTA award winning cinematographer, Scarth has worked across film and television on productions including Top Boy, Apostasy, Mary & George and Under Salt Marsh. His sensitivity to light, colour and composition, developed behind the camera, informs his approach to painting.
His paintings often emerge from reflections on family, loss, love and personal transformation. Landscapes, gardens and distant horizons appear and dissolve through successive layers of paint, balancing abstraction with traces of the remembered world.
Working instinctively, Scarth builds richly textured surfaces that capture fleeting sensations and moments difficult to express in words. His work invites feelings of nostalgia, grief, hope and connection, extending his interest in visual storytelling from film to canvas.
