Carol Wainwright: Wonky Pots

24 October - 21 November 2022

Georgia Stoneman is pleased to present an exhibition of Wonky Pots by Yorkshire-based artist Carol Wainwright, made exclusively for Georgia Stoneman Fine Art, accompanied by a series of previously unexhibited works on paper.

Wainwright's practice, which spans ceramics, painting and textiles, is an exploration of colour, texture, pattern and form. Carol throws her expressive pots in sections before joining them, using a combination of matt/glossy glazes and oxides layered upon the stoneware vessels, prepared using raw material from the clay pits at Wareham in Dorset. She uses both brush and hand cut stencil techniques to apply the surface decoration, bringing to life the wonky forms packed with personality.

Carol's works on paper are created using gouache and collage on a variety of different kinds of paper, specially selected for their textural qualities. This selection process highlights her constant thinking between 2D and 3D, the same playful motifs appearing across works.

Carol Wainwright studied Ceramics at the West Surrey College of Art and has been a selected member of the Craft Potters Association since 1991, she was awarded the South West Arts Award in 1994/96 and has exhibited widely in the UK.

We would like to thank Carol for producing this exceptional new body of work.
