Biography

Julia Cooper lives and works in Cornwall with a studio overlooking the beautiful Fowey harbour.

Julia’s particular painting interest lies in creating form and space using a variety of palettes but invariably prefers muted colour. The kitchen pots in her still life paintings jostle amongst themselves in various bucolic arrangements of flattened perspective and simplistic narrative.

Living by the ocean also inspires abstract form in paintings reminiscent of harbour structures and coastline, again with the emphasis on a soft colour palette. Julia paints using oil on canvas but also constructs minimalist wall art with aged, weathered timbers and bronze from classic boats for example 1930s six metre racing yachts or the local racing Troys of Fowey harbour.

Julia achieved Diplomas in both Fine Art, Interior Design and Architectural Drawing, and worked for The Cornwall National Trust as a Designer Specifier. She is also an RWA Network Member.
